General insurance in Pakistan.

Life insurance business was nationalised on March 19, 1972. The nationalisation measures affected 49 life Insurance Companies (49 Pakistani and 6 foreign). The general insurance business is still in the private sector. Statistics in regard to general insurance business is scanty and out of date. According to Pakistan Statistical Year Book 1984 there were 46 insurance companies in Pakistan of which 35 were Pakistanis and 11 were foreign country.
